ECO VALUES

Proper Eco-Friendly Printing

Our Commitment

For nearly fifty years, we’ve been a trustworthy print and finishing provider to companies all over London and the South-East. We’ve grown to be the leading independent printer in London; we did it by looking after our customers and staff, whilst making the right decisions that impact us and our communities.

We want to WOW our customers with proper printing, cracking colour, by making ideas happen. But it's more than that. We want to be recognised for our commitment to many of the big topics impacting us all - carbon emissions, energy consumption, recycling, wellbeing, and community support.

We’re always innovating and identifying opportunities to improve, for ourselves and for our customers, but we’re proud of what we’ve achieved to date across eight core areas:

Green Energy

Electricity makes up the majority of our energy consumption at IPW1, which is why we chose Octopus Energy (Which? Recommended Eco Provider) to supply all our Green tariff electricity, which comes from 100% renewable sources.

Utilising sun, wind and water, Octopus ensures an equal amount of electricity is added into the system in its place over the year, meaning our electricity consumption at IPW1 is completely Carbon Free!

When we moved to the Tower Bridge Road Studio we took the opportunity to overhaul the electrics and implement a new energy-efficient natural lighting system with a mixture of compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and light emitting diodes (LEDs).

Green Deliveries

We replaced our very own IPW1 delivery van with an electric VW ID Buzz in 2024! Absolutely perfect for client deliveries, whilst reducing carbon emissions and noise pollution from travel.

We also use a human-powered cargo-bike to make client deliveries that are nearby or to make deliveries quicker when there’s a lot of traffic - blink & you'll miss Zsolt!

We’ve also worked with our main courier partner, DPD, for many years as they stood out for having the best commitment and practices for tackling climate change. DPD makes millions of electric deliveries each year, using their growing fleet of 3,600+ electric vehicles that operate throughout the UK.

Green Materials

Recycling and reusing is integrated into our business and we ensure that 100% of our paper waste is collected, sorted, and processed.

We repurpose off-cuts to create in-house note books and eco-boxes for business cards, eliminating plastic packaging. Expect to receive your business cards in our new eco-friendly boxes!

We’ve completely switched to recycled paper bags, which are easier to recycle and biodegradable, as well as recycled paper-based tape for packaging, and PVC-free vinyls too!

And did we mention as part of our Tower Bridge Road refurbishment and fit out we  upcycled the existing banks of built in-desks to create our custom desks to maximise the space?

Innovative Tech

We utilise the latest Xerox technologies to continue pioneering the latest advancements in digital printing and to maintain energy-efficient products. The Xerox Iridesse’s are ENERGY STAR certified, which means they meet strict energy-saving criteria through efficient ink use, optimal power consumption and automated resource allocation.

Our HP large format printers are also designed to be energy efficient and reduce energy consumption, without sacrificing on performance or productivity levels, through low power mode, automated on/off scheduling, and environmentally friendly water-based inks.

From printers to computers, light bulbs and more, we’ve ensured that our company technology supports our eco-friendly and energy efficiency ethos.

Accreditations

Our main paper supplier is carbon neutral and ISO 14001 accredited, meaning all their products are carefully sourced and 99% of their portfolio PEFC Chain of Custody or FSC® certified.

Whether we are producing a flyer, a menu, a brochure or any other paper-based product, all of the material comes from the sustainable sources that the print and paper industry is based on.

We have been providing FSC® certified printing for many years so you may not even know your print is contributing to Sustainable Forest Management and the overall health of our planet!

Team Wellbeing

Positive mental and physical wellbeing has always been an integral part of our ethos and practices at IPW1. Our Founder, Peter, is a passionate cyclist who leads by example and encourages our team to stay fit and cycle to work where possible - now over a third of our team cycle to work!

At IPW1, we support flexible hours for our team and ensure a healthy work-life balance. Our hands-on directors man the pumps between Christmas and New Year, giving our team the time off to relax and be with their families.

Plus, our Employee Assistance Programme offers free, confidential mental health and wellbeing support whenever needed.

Communities

We are delighted to announce that IPW1 is now a Woodland Trust Corporate Member helping create, restore and protect UK woodland. Like us, the Woodland Trust is in its 5th decade and is still growing - although the threats to woodland have changed, they are just as significant. And their vision for a UK rich in woods and trees for people and wildlife is as relevant as ever.

IPW1 has always been based in the heart of London and as almost half of London is green space with some eight million trees, we wanted to support a UK woodland conservation charity that had a strategy that included urban trees and woodland. From parks and gardens to allotments and nature reserves, the capital is one of the greenest major urban centres in the world and as proud Londoners we want to play our part in keeping it that way. We’ve proudly supported Dulwich Hamlet FC for many years, printing their programmes with perfect branding and colour for loyal fans. With our directors’ Essex roots, we also support Romford & Gidea Park RFC by printing vinyls for their clubhouse.
